AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team met in conference for Lander University on Friday night and fell 4-3 in Greenwood, SC. The game marked the first in a 3 game series against the Bearcats.

Augusta moves to 1-9 and 0-4 in conference. Lander moves to 8-3 and 9-0 in conference. The Bears booked 8 hits to Augusta's 4. Both teams made 2 errors in the contest.

Four Jaguars had a hit during the game: Ben Markiewicz, Carrington Evans, Garet Suiter, and Mason Robertson. Shortstop Mason Robertson went 1-for-3, had one hit, and 1 RBI. 1^st baseman Timothy Gray and right fielder Carrington Evans also added 1 RBI each.

The AU pitching staff sent 2 pitchers to the mound. ___ Will Cantrell (0-1) got the weekend start for Augusta and faced 23 batters in five innings to hold the Bears to 5 hits. ----- Chase Horton came in to pitch the sixth and allowed three hits for one run. (one earned).

Justin Walker (2-0) logged the start for Lander and pitched 7.0 innings to three hits for two runs. Ryan Flores, Praise Thorsen, and Bryce Jackson also saw time on the mound for Lander.  

Lander led with a run in the first inning. AU had an answering run in the second inning when Carrington Evans scored Ben Markiewicz on an RBI-double up. The Bearcats scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 5^th on an AU error. Lander added a run in the sixth and seventh inning. A sacrifice fly by Tyler Gray in the 8^th inning allowed ____Powell to score in the bottom of the 8^th.With no other scores, Lander earned a narrow 4-3 victory.

The Jaguars face Lander on both Saturday and Sunday (Feb 22^nd and 23^rd) in Greenwood. Both contest will be played at 1:00pm
