Box Score 3 Greenwood, SC . – The Augusta University baseball team continued its Peach Belt Conference three-game series with the Lander Bearcats on Saturday and Sunday. The Jags split the two games with 8-7 win in Saturday and 1-20 loss on Sunday.
Augusta is now 2-10 overall and 1-5 in the Peach Belt, while Lander bumped up to 9-4 and 4-1 in the league.
GAME 2
Starting pitcher Hunter Norman pitched for seven innings and struck out 7 batters. He was relieved by Joseph Pittman and eventually Aaron Chick, who pitched for 2.0 innings and allowed 2 hits.
Both teams were scoreless in the first two innings. Sacrifice fly balls were hit by both Ben Marckiewicz and Mason Robertson in the 3rd inning for scores. Lander answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Augusta scored six more unanswered runs until the Bearcats attempted to mount a comeback in the bottom of the 8th inning.
Aaron Chick was able to strike out Lander's catcher in the bottom of the 9th inning to seal the 8-7 win
Lander started pitcher Fraser Ellard, but sent 5 pitchers to the mound throughout the contest. Augusta's Theron Powell and Ben Markiewicz both registered 3 runs.
GAME 3
Mason Robertson went 2-for-4 and registered 1 run in the series closing loss to Lander. Carrington Evans had carded 1 hit and 1 RBI during the contest.
Skylor Murphy, Ben Markiewicz, Mason Robertson, Carrington Evans, and Brian Smith all registered hits during the game.
Augusta's John Micah Law started on the mound for the Jaguars. He pitched for 2.0 innings in which he struck out 2 batters. He was followed by Alex Colon and Chase Horton. Augusta saw 7 different pitchers spend time on the mound.
Lander's Carson Schlegel pitched 7.0 innings in which he only allowed 5 hits and struck out 6 Augusta batters.
The Jags return home for the next game against non-conference opponent Coker on Wednesday Feb 26th at 3:00pm
