Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team welcomed the Belmont Abbey Crusaders for a Saturday non-conference double feature at Jaguar Field and won 1-0 in game one, before scoring seven runs in in eight innings of the second game to win 7-6 and sweep the day.
AU has now won its last three games and improves to 3-11 while Belmont Abbey moves to 2-10.
Augusta plays the Anderson Trojans on Thursday, March 5th for a 2:00pm non-conference doubleheader in Anderson, S.C.
Game 1
Augusta carded the only run of the day in the 5th inning. The Crusaders were unable to answer and lost the contest 1-0.
Augusta was led offensively by Morgan Hunter and right fielder Bella Fernandez. Both players had one hit on the day. Fernandez added 1 RBI.
AU freshman Kelsey Parks (1-6) pitched a complete game in which she only allowed 5 hits. She struck out 12 hitters during the contest.
Game 2
The Augusta Jaguars struck first in the second game of the series, scoring 4 runs in the second innings. The Crusaders battled to tie the game through the 7th inning, but a walk-off single at the bottom of the 8th propelled the Jags to victory.
The Jags were led offensively by Megan McCook. The junior catcher went 3-for-3, adding one run and one RBI. Sophomore Madelyn Libby went 2-for-4 with 1 run and 3 RBI while sophomore Reilly Williams went 2-for-3. Olivia Biles, Sydney Tulin, Courtney Browne, and Kelsey Parks all carded hits during the match-up.
A single up the middle by freshman pitcher Kelsey Parks allowed Bella Fernandez to score a game-winning walk-off run.
Three different pitchers saw time on the mound for Augusta. Junior Morgan Hunter started and pitched for 4.0 innings. She struck out 3 hitters and allowed four runs. Courtney Browne and eventually Jada Jackson (1-0) also saw tie on the mound. Jackson pitched for 3.0 innings and struck out two batters.
