Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team traveled to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Converse College. The Jags extended their win streak to seven with the doubleheader sweep.
Game 1
The Jaguars are 6-11 overall while Converse moved to 3-14 for the 2020 season.
Augusta took an early lead in the game. In the third at-bat, Olivia Biles tripled to right center, allowing Madison Libby to score. Olivia Biles then scored on an error by the Converse shortstop. Converse's Sarah Ann Arthur then walked Courtney Browne which allowed another Augusta run.
The Valkyries scored twice in the second inning but were unable to overcome the deficit and eventually fell 5-3.
Center fielder Madelyn Libby went 2-for-4 and added one run. Catcher Megan McCook went 1-for-2 and added 1 run and 1RBI. Olivia Biles, Reilly Williams, Jakayla Sullivan, and Kelsey parks all carded hits in the matchup.
Katy Caldwell started on the mound for the Jaguars. After pitching 4.1 innings and striking out 5 batters, she was relieved by Senior Morgan Hunter (1-5) who allowed 3 hits but no runs.
Game 2
Augusta softball was forced into extra innings to continue their win streak. Now 7-11 for the season, the Jaguars utilized 9 innings to get the 5-4 win over Converse.
The Valkyries scored three early runs in the first inning. A double by catcher Megan McCook allowed Jakayla Sullivan and Bella Fernandez to score in the 2nd inning. Olivia Biles also scored in the inning to tie the game.
Both teams remained locked after scoring 1 run apiece in the 8th inning. A sacrifice fly by Sydney Tulin in the 9th inning allowed Olivia Biles to score for the win.
Senior Jada Jackson got the start for the Jags. She was replaced by freshman Kelsey Parks, who struck out 11 hitters.
Augusta returns home to face non-conference East Stroudsburg on Tuesday, March 10th at 1:00 pm at Jaguar Field
