Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga – The Augusta University softball team handled previously unbeaten Anderson Trojans 11-2 in game one of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, before dropping the second game 6-2.
The Jaguars (3-7) scored 11 unanswered runs in the first inning of game 1 of the doubleheader. Augusta out hit Anderson 6-3 and were perfect in the field with no errors.
Augusta travels to Due West, S.C. March 3 to play Erskine. Augusta faces Queens and Belmont Abbey March 5th and 6th on the road.
GAME 1
Augusta showed up ready in game one and scored 11 runs in the first inning. Olivia Biles drove in Lauren Slade on a 1 RBI single to centerfield. Aminah Wood blasted a 3 RBI homer. Bella Fernandez followed with a 2RBI single bringing Summer Frye and Jakayla Sullivan home. Wood homered a second time in the inning, this time carding 4 runs with the hit.
Anderson scored a run in both the third and fourth inning, but the large lead caused the game to be called in the 5th inning.
Aminah Wood went 2-for-3 with 7 RBIs and 2 runs to lead the Jags in the first game. Bella Fernandez, and Olivia Biles also tabbed 2 hits each in the contest.
Mary Tillman (2-2) tossed five innings and struck out seven batters. She held Anderson scoreless to only three hits
GAME 2
Anderson struck first in game 2 of the double header, scoring two runs in the 3rd inning pushing in a 1 run homer in the 4th. Olivia Biles double to left field in the bottom of the 6th to allow Lauren Slade to score. Summer Frye doubled into right field in the same inning to allow Biles to score.
The Trojans added 3 more runs in the top of the 6th to take an eventual 6-2 victory over the home team.
AU carded 3 hits in the second game. Olivia Biles, Bella Fernandez, and Summer Frye were all 1-for-3.
Chloe Wilson pitched a complete game. She struck out 9 batters in here 7 innings and allowed 10 hits.
