Box Score Newberry, S.C. – The Augusta University baseball team scored first in the second inning on Tuesday evening, but couldn't overcome the Wolves and fell 6-2 at the Smith Road Complex. After a series of postponements, this game marked the first outing for the AU Jaguars since last March.
The Jaguars moved to 0-1 while the Wolves moved to 4-3.
Both teams matched a run in the second inning to start the night. Milan Ellerson plated Trent Maddox, but Newberry got a sacrifice bunt to tie the game. Lukas Coker singled in the second, sending Mason Roberston home, putting the Jags up one run in the top of the 3rd inning.
Newberry added 3 runs in the 3rd inning and scored an additional run in the 7th on a throwing error.
Noah Fritz tossed 2.0 innings in the start for Augusta and allowing 1 hit and 1 run. Brian Trepanier (1.0 inning) and Will Cantrell (3.0 innings were up on the mound next. Cotton Phillips and Jasper Dubberly rounded out the pitching crew for the day
Ben Markiewicz carded 2 hits in the game. Mason Robertson, Skylor Murphy, Lukas Coker, Trent Maddox, and Milan Ellerson all registered a single hit.
AU hosts Flagler this Friday and Saturday for a three-game conference series. All three games will be hosted at SRP Park in North Augusta. Game 1 I Friday night at 6pm. Saturday's games will be in a double header format starting at noon. Tickets are available for pre-purchase.
