Box Score NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C – The Augusta University baseball team outlasted the visiting Flagler College Saints in extra innings in the opening game of their three game series. Flagler falls to 0-7 while the Jaguars move to 1-1, 1-0 in Peach Belt Conference Play.
Flagler opened the scoring with a grand slam in the top of the second inning.
In the bottom of the second, Trent Maddox scored on a wild pitch. Maddox also homered in the 3rd, bringing both he and Lukas Coker home.
In the fourth, Skylor Murphy, Ben Markiewicz, and Lukas Coker all carded singles resulting in a score. A 5th inning run by Trent Maddox on a wild pitch brought the score to 4-7.
The Saints didn't answer until the top of the 9th inning. After scoring on another wild pitch, the Saints' Myles Colangelo hit a 2 RBI single to even the score at 7-7.
After 2 extra innings, Trent Maddox again proved himself, with a fielder's choice single allowing Mason Robertson to score to end the game.
Noah Fritz started on the mound and tossed 6 innings, striking out 6 batters, Cotton Phillips (2.0 innings) and Jasper Dubberly (0.2 innings) also saw time on the mound. Chase Horton registered the win, pitching the final 2.1 innings while not allowing a single hit.
Trent Maddox, was 2-for-5, with 3 RBi and 3 runs. Six other Jaguars carded hits during the night game.
AU hosts Flagler on Saturday for games 2 and 3 of the three game PBC series. The series will be played at SRP Park in North Augusta, with first pitch at noon. Tickets are available for pre-purchase.
