Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team played a non-conference series on Tuesday afternoon against the visiting Emmanuel College Lions. The 9-8 victory was secured by a walk-off home run by catcher Jose Nogueras in the in the 9th inning.
The Jaguars (2-6, 1-5 PBC) hit 9 runs against Emmanuel (5-9) in their first meeting of the year.
Jose Nogueras and Mason Robertson each went 2-for-5 to combine for five RBI. Shylor Murphy was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Jordan Wilkie was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Nogueras had the go-ahead home run with 2 outs in the 9th to will AU to the win.
In his first start of the year, Chase Horton logged 3.1 innings while allowing 8 hits. Austin Heard, Cotton Phillips, and Jasper Dubberly pitched in relief before Benjamin Koch took the mound to close out the game for the win.
Emmanuel opened the scoring in the first inning with a sac fly out to center field that allowed T. Matos to score. AU immediately answered with Skylor Murphy hitting a 1-run homer to tie the game at 1-1. Walker Sinclair scored in the in the second after Jordan Wilkie grounded out to the short stop.
After Emmanuel scored two runs in the third, AU scored 3 answering runs in the fourth inning. A double by Jordan Wilkie and singles by Jose Nogueras and Skylor Murphy pushed the Jags to a 5-3 lead,
Mason Robertson homered in the bottom of the 6th inning to extend the lead to 6-3. Emmanuel tied the game at 6-6 after an error by AU. Emmanuel then took an 8-6 lead after Pittman hit a 2 run homer at the top of the 8th.
Mason Robertson again answered, hitting a two-run bomb to tie the game at the bottom of the 8th.
A single run walk-off homer by Jose Nogueras sealed the 9-8 win for Augusta.
On Friday, AU travels to Dahlonega to take on North Georgia for a Peach Belt Conference match-up. All games can be vied on the PBC Sports Network.
