AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team hosted the Georgia College Bobcats for their opening Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Jaguar Field and won 4-2 in game one and 5-4 in game two in extra innings.
Augusta (8-8, 2-0 PBC) hit 5 homers during the double header. Lindsey South and Summer Frye both homered in game 1. Madelyn Libby, Jakayla Sullivan, and Summer Frye again homered in game 2.
In game one, the Jags booked the two runs in the third inning after a double by Madelyn Libby allowed Bella Fernandez and Summer Frye to score. Lindsey South them hit a home run to put the home team up 3-0. A score by Georgia College in the fifth was immediately answered by a 1 run homer from Summer Frye in the bottom of the same inning.
Mary Tillman (4-3) was the game-one starter and recorded her seventh complete game to get the win. Tillman struck out six and allowed 7 hits for two runs.
MacKenzie Michels took the mound for Georgia College in game 1. The Bobcats outhit the Jags by 1, but were unable to capitalize.
Georgia College struck first in game two when two singles by G.C.'s Sommerer and Howell resulted in a 3rd inning 2-0 lead. Howell hit a 2-run homer in the 5th inning to expand the visiting lead to 4-0. AU came storming back to smash three home runs and even the score 4-4 in the 7th inning.
A single by Olivia Biles allowed Lindsey south to score at the bottom of the 8th inning and take home the sweep for the day.
Chloe Wilson pitched tossed all 8 innings for the Jags, striking out 7 and allowing 8 hits.
Augusta travel to Southern Wesleyan for two non-conference games on Tuesday, March 16 at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
