Box Score AUGUSTA Ga. – The Augusta University baseball started their three-game, two-day series with Francis Marion with a loss at Jaguar field.
Francis Marion improved to 9-6, 7-6 in Peach Belt Conference play while AU fell to 2-10, 1-9 in the PBC Augusta hosts Francis Marion tomorrow for the final two game of the series. First pitch of the double header will be at 11:00am, followed by game 3 at 2pm.
GAME 1
FMU took an early 2-0 lead, with two doubles putting the Patriots up 2-0 in the top of the 1st inning. A single by Trent Maddox to left center field allowed Mason Robertson to score, bringing the game to 2-1. Ben Markiewicz homered in the bottom of the third inning in to tie the game. After carding 2 runs in the fourth, the Patriots slammed a 3-run homer to extend the lead to 8-2. A final FMU score was carded in the 7th. A SAC fly by Skylar Murphy in the bottom of the 7th drove Milan Ellerson home, but the Jags were unable to overcome the deficit and fell 9-3.
Milan Ellerson and Walker Sinclair were both 1-for-3, with Ellerson adding one run. Mason Roberston, Skylor Murphy, Ben Markiewicz, Trent Maddox, and Jose Nogueras each notched a hit during the game.
Noah Fritz (0-2) started on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings. Fritz struck out 4 batters and allowed 10 hits for 8 runs. Ryder Willard took over in the fourth, tossing 2.2 innings before Trevor Gordon also pitched in relief and closed out the game.
