Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Francis Marion. Augusta defeated Francis Marion 6-5 in game one and dropped a tight 3-2 second game at Jaguar Field.

The Jaguars (3-11, 2-10 PBC) entered the game after playing the first game of the series on Friday afternoon. AU stays home to take on Lander on Tuesday at 2:00pm at Jaguar Field. The final two games of that series will be at SRP Park on Wednesday March 24th at 2:00 and 4:00pm.

Game 1

Augusta senior Jose Nogueras delivered a two RBI, 1 run performance. Harrison Aulds was 1 for 3, with 2 runs while Ben Merkiewicz and Walker Sinclair were both 1-for-3 while adding a run. Trent Maddox was 1-for-4 with one run.

After Francis Marion struck first in the opening inning, Trent Maddox doubled to right field at the bottom of the 1st, allowing Harrison Aulds to score. A walk by Jordan Wilkie advanced Trent Maddox home and pushed the 2-1 advantage to AU. The Patriots scored on an AU error in the second, but AU answered with a single run in the 5th.

FMU tied the game at 4 after a double in the 6th inning, but a 2 run homer by Jose Nogueras in the same innings proved too much for the Patriots – leading the Jags to a 6-5 victory.

Brian Trepanier pitched 5.0 innings, only allowing 3 hits while striking out 9 batters.  Chase Horton replaced him on the mound for AU, pitching 4.0 innings and striking out 3 batters.

GAME 2

With the series on the line after each team took a game, FMU scored once in the second inning and once in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. The Jaguars carded 2 scores in the 7th, but a double in the 8th sealed the game for the Patriots 3-2.

Will Cantrell gave Augusta six innings of work and gave up 7 hits for 2 runs. Benjamin Koch and Jasper Dubberly took over the mound in relief appearances.

Lukas Coker was 3-for-4 from the plate while Jose Nogueras and Mason Robertson both carded runs for AU in the final game of the series.
