Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team won an 18-7 Peach Belt Conference game over the Lander Bearcats on Wednesday afternoon at SRP Park,
Augusta (4-12, 3-11 PBC) came from behind to score six runs in the 6th inning prior to scoring 10 runs in the seventh and ending the game over Lander (13-8, 9-7). The Bearcats used six pitchers to try and slow down the Jaguar offense, but Augusta's stellar hitting in the final two innings of the game proved to be too much for the visiting team.
Lander took a 2-0 advantage to start the first inning. A single by Ben Markiewicz in the first inning added a score for the Jags. After scoring a second run in the 4th, the home team allowed Lander to score 4 runs in the fifth inning.
The sixth inning saw the start of an unprecedented finish for AU, starting with Jose Nogueras scoring on a wild pitch. Skylor Murphy then doubled to left field, driving Michael Bryant home. Trent Maddox hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Walker Sinclair to score. Michael Bryant, Walker Sinclair, and Ben Markiewicz hit singles for scores in the 7th inning, putting the score at 12-7. A final 3 RBI double by Walker Sinclair capped the game, ending the matchup in 7 innings.
Brian Trepanier started on the mound for the Jags prior to Chase Horton closing and getting the win for AU.
Game 3
Lander took an early lead and extended that lead after scoring 6 runs in the 5th inning. The Jaguars single score of the game came from 1 1 RBI ground out from Harrison Aulds that allowed Lukas Coker to score.
Harrison Aulds was 1-for-3 with 1 RBI. Lukas Coker was 1-for-4 in the game and scored 1 run. Walker Sinclair, Skylor Murphy, and Ben Markiewicz each carded a hit in the final and deciding game of the Peach Belt Conference series.
Will Cantrell started on the mound for the Jags and pitched 4.2 innings in which he allowed 5 runs on 2 hits. Cantrell struck out 6 batters in his 4.2 inning of work. Six other Jaguars pitched in relief during the game.
AU is back at home on Saturday March 27th for a Peach Belt Conference Double header against Georgia Southwestern before playing the final game of the series on Sunday.
