Box Score 2 The Augusta University Softball team pushed the 13th ranked Young Harris Mountain Lions (19-4, 8-0 PBC) to their limit on Friday evening in a double-header.
Game 1
The Jaguars (8-16, 2-6 PBC) took an early lead in the start of the game. In just the first inning, AU carded four runs. After Jakayla Sullivan was hit by a pitch and Olivia Biles walked, Aminah Wood reached 1st base on an error by the shortstop. With the bases loaded, Lindsey South homered, driving home four runs and causing an early pitching change for the home team.
Young Harris answered with a single score of their own in bottom of the first inning to tighten the score to 4-1. Both teams remained scoreless through the next two innings, but a 4 run fourth inning gave the Mountain Lions a 5-4 advantage.
After another single score by the home team in the bottom of the fifth, a sacrifice fly by AU's Aminah Wood in the 6th inning drove Jakayla Sullivan home tightening the score to 5-6. While the Jaguars battled, nationally ranked Young Harris was able to hold on for victory.
Linsdey South was 1-for-2 with 4 RBI and 1 run. Jakayla Sullivan was 1-for-3 with 2 run. Olivia Biles and Aminah Wood carded a hit and a run.
Mary Tillman was the sole pitcher on the mound for Augusta, striking out 3 batters and allowing 6 runs on 9 hits.
Game 2
The second game of the series proved to be a marathon, going 10 innings and lasting over 3 hours. Again, Young Harris slipped away from Augusta by a single run in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Young Harris struck first in the bout, tallying a single run in the 1st inning and a single run in the 4th. AU's answer would come in the 6th and 7th innings. In the sixth, a single by Olivia Biles put Aliyah Luke home. A 2 RBI single by Regan Norfleet in the 7th pushed Lindsey South and Summer Frye in for scores, giving the Jags a 3-2 advantage.
Young Harris' Dunson homered to left field to even the score at 3-3. Both teams battled for an extra three innings before Young Harris scored on one of only 2 errors by AU for the night.
Olivia Biles went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI while Summer Frye was 2-for-4 with 1 run. Lindsey South was 2-for-5 with 2 runs. Regan Norfleet was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI. Aliyah Luke also carded a hit during the contest.
Chloe Wilson (4-8) pitched another complete game for the Jags, allowing 6 hits in 9.1 innings of work.
The Jaguars return to action on Monday, March 29th for a Peach Belt Conference Double Header top-ranked North Georgia.
