Box Score 2 Belmont, N.C.. – The Augusta Jaguars met Belmont Abbey Saturday afternoon and won a 3-0 shutout in game one before taking the second 8-2 in non-conference play.
Augusta (6-8) blanked the Crusaders (2-8) in game one.
A 3-run homer by Aminah Wood in the top of the 6th inning drove both Olivia Biles and Jakayla Sullivan home for the only scores of game 1.
Mary Tillman (3-4) held Belmont Abbey scoreless in her complete-game win where she matched her season-high ten strikeouts
Wood led Augusta with three RBI in a 1-2 performance, as Augusta totaled three hits to match the Crusaders three. Olivia Biles also went 1-for 2 while Jakayala Sullivan went 1 for 3.
Belmont Abbey's A. Browne logged five innings before Fields finished the final 2 innings, allowing 3 runs and striking out a single batter.
In the second meeting of the day, Augusta struck early in the second inning, scoring 4 runs. Lindsey South singled to right field, allowing Bella Fernandez and Madelyn Libby to score. In the same inning, Olivia BIles doubled to left center, pushing Jakayla Sullivan and Lindsey South in for runs.
In the fourth inning, Aminah Wood had a 3 RBI single. A fielding error by left field allowed three Jaguar runs. A Bella Fernandez single extended the lead to 8-0.
Belmont Abbey answered in the 5th inning with 2 runs of their own, but they were unable overcome the deficit and fell 8-2 at home.
Chloe Wilson pitched a complete game for AU and got her third. Wilson struck out six and only gave up five hits.
Augusta returns home on Saturday March 13th for a Peach Belt doubleheader against Georgia College starting at 1pm.
