Trent Maddox Homers in Loss to No. 9 Columbus State

COLUMBUs, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball finished their three game series with 2 lossesat No. 9 Columbus State  and fell 11-1 in both games .

 

Augusta moved to 1-6 overall, while Columbus State is now 6-2 on the season. Augusta hosts Emmanuel this Tuesday March 9th at 2:00 p.m. for a make-up game that was postponed due to inclement weather.

 

GAME 1

Columbus State took an early =, scoring 4 runs in the opening inning. Columbus extended the lead to 6-0 after the Cougars' Bouton homered in the bottom of the fourth.

 

Trent Maddox homered to right field for AU in the 6th inning, marking the only score for the Jaguars in the first second game of the series. Columbus State scored again in the 6th after another homer, and added 4 more runs in the 7th inning.

 

Mason Robertson, Lukas Coker, and Walker Sinclair were all 2-for-4. Trent Maddox, Skylor Murphy, Jose Noguera, and Milan Ellerson all carded a single hit for the game, with Maddox adding a home run for the Jaguars.

Brian Trepanier (0-3) started on the mound and pitched 3.1 innings. Trepanier struck out 4 batters and allowed 8 hits for 6 runs. Ryder Willard took over in the fourth, tossing 3.1 innings and allowing 5 runs while also striking out 4.

 

GAME 2

 Columbus launched a three-run home run in the first inning for an early lead and hit two doubles to extend the lead to 6-0 in the 4th inning. Augusta senior Patrick Watson put the Jags on the scoreboard with a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Fighting Knights prevailed and won 8-3.A solid 5th inning put the home team up 8-0. A double by Skylor Murphy in the 6th inning drove Milan Ellerson home for AU's single score of game 2. CSU added two more runs in the 6th and 7th to close out the game.

 

Will Cantrell (0-1) earned the start and struck out 2 hitters in his 3.2 innings of action. Chase Horton, Austin Heard, and Jasper Dubberly all pitched in relied for Augusta.

 

Harrison Aulds went 2-for-2 while Milan Ellerson had a 1-for-2, 1 RBI performance at the plate for the Jags. Skylor Murphy was also 1-for-2 for the day.
