Augusta Baseball Wins Final Game of USC Aiken Series
GAME 1
After shifting game times to avoid impending rain, Augusta fell 5-4 in an eleven inning marathon on Friday afternoon.
Augusta started the scoring with two runs in the first inning. To open, Paxton Tolleson hit a single to left field to drive Walker Sinclair home. Skylor Murphy then hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Ben Markiewicz to score. In the second inning, a double by Milan Ellerson pushed the score to 3-0.
The Pacers answered with two runs of their own in the fourth inning before adding single cores in the seventh and eighth innings. AU's Milan Ellerson scored off of a Walker Sinclair single, evening the score 4-4. USC Aiken eventually took game 1 after scoring in the eleventh inning.
Leading the offense, Ben Markiewicz was 3-for-5 with. Milam Ellerson and Walker Sinclair both carded two hits.
Will Cantrell started on the mound for the Jaguars, tossing 7 innings. Chase Horton pitched in relief, carding 3.1 innings. Horton allowed 6 hits and struck out 5 batters.
GAME 2
The Jags fell 10-1 in the second game of the day. Trent Maddox hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, but the Jags were unable to stop the hot hitting of SC Aiken.
Maddox was 2-for-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Mason Roberston, Skylor Murphy, and Harrison Aulds all carded single hits.
Brian Trepanier started on the mound for the Jaguaurs, tossing two innings. Jasper Dubberly, Trevor Gordon, Ethan Dodd, Ryder Willard, and Nyle Grove all pitched in relief.
GAME 3
AU took the final game of the series 6-3. Walker Sinclair's single in the third inning put Trevor Maddox home and marked the first score of the game. USC Aiken answered with single runs in the third and fifth innings.
Augusta's Skylor Murphy blasted a two-run homer in the sixth to put the Jaguars up 3-2. After Jose Nogueras scored on an error, Trent Maddox hit a two-run double to right field, extending the lead to 6-2. USC Aiken scored once more in the 7th, but the Jags held to take home a 6-3 victory.
Walker Sinclair was 2-for-5 with 1 RBI. Ben Markiewicz was 2-for-5 with 1 run. Harrison Aulds was 2-for-4 with 1 run. Trent Maddox, Skylor Murphy, and Lukas Coker all carded single hits.
Noah Fritz (1-3) started on the mound for AU, tossing 6.1 innings and striking out 3 batters. Cotton Phillips replaced him, pitching 2.2 innings.
Augusta plays a single game at Erskine on Wednesday April 14th at 2:00pm in Due West, S.C. before returning home to play Claflin on Friday and Saturday.
