AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team welcomed rival USC Aiken for a Saturday Peach Belt Conference double feature at Jaguar Field and won 10-0 in game one, before winning game two 4-0 and sweeping the day.
AU is now on a five game win streak and improved to 13-19, 7-9 in conference, while USC Aiken fell to 3-11, 3-9 PBC.
Augusta plays the Lander Bearcats on Sunday March 18th for a 2:00pm Peach Belt Conference doubleheader in Greenwood, S.C.
Game 1
The Jaguars blew open the score with four runs in the first inning and seven runs in the third to run-rule USC Aiken in five innings. The Pacers carded only a single hit in the matchup.
Augusta presented a balanced offensive attack, with four different Jaguars carding two hits in game 1. Lindsey South was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Sumer Frye was 2-for-3 with 1 run Aminah Wood was 2-for03 with one run and two RBI and Emma Seagrave was 2-for-3 with one run and 1 RBI. Aliyah Luke also carded a hit, a run, and an RBI.
AU's Mary Tillman pitched a near flawless game, striking out 9 batters and only allowing a dingle hit in her five innings of work.
Game 2
USC Aiken was again held scoreless by the Jaguars in game one. Augusta scored a run in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth to close out the scoring for the day. Augusta tallied its second sweep in as many weekends with the 4-0 decision.
After Aminah Wood put Olivia Biles over home plate with a double to left field, Jakayla Sullivan's three run homer highlighted the game. Biles was 2-for-3 with a run in the contest while five other Augusta players carded a hit.
Chloe Wilson pitched a complete game for AU striking out 8 batters and allowing 6 hits.
