AUGUSTA, Ga. - Augusta fans will have their first opportunity to see the men's basketball team in action at home on Tuesday. Augusta hosts Benedict in Christenberry Fieldhouse at 7:30 pm.

- Preseason All-Conference Selection Ja'Queze Kirby notched double-doubles in his first two games of the season
- Demitri Gardener is the leading scorer for AU heading into the matchup, averaging 18.7 points per game and shooting 67% from the field.
- Irish national Maxamilliam Amadasun leads the team in blocks and is averaging 17.3 points and 11.3 rebounds.
- Benedict is 3-0 for the season, led by Tim Moore who is averaging 20 points per game.
- Augusta holds a 9-3 advantage in the series with Benedict, winning the last 4 games. The two teams last met at Benedict Nov. 22, 2022 – Augusta won 77-69.
- The AU men's basketball program currently sits at 999 all-time program wins. A win on Tuesday would be the program's 1,000th win.
HEAD COACH DIP METRESS
The Augusta University men's basketball team is led by head coach
Dip Metress. On May 10, 2004, Metress was introduced as the fifth head coach in program history. He previously led the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (1996-04) and was an assistant for the Jaguars under Clint Bryant (1989-95). He has never had a losing season in his 19 seasons at the helm of the Jaguars. A two-time Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year, Metress and the Jags hosted five straight NCAA Regional Tournaments from 2007-11 and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight three seasons in a row. In 2022, Metress led Augusta to the NCAA National Championship Game. The 2023 season saw Augusta win a second-consecutive PBC championship, draw the No. 1 regional ranking, and host the NCAA Southeast Region Tournament. Metress was named the South Atlantic Coach of the Year in 2007, the PBC Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2019, the Southeast Region Coach of the Year in 2009, and the NABC Southeast District Coach of the Year in 2011.
