Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, GA– The Augusta University softball team split an opening-day doubleheader with North Greenville Thursday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
The Jaguars fell 3-6 in the first game of the afternoon before taking the second game 9-6. Augusta is slated to host Francis Marion on Sunday, Feb 4 at 1 pm for a double-header.
GAME 1 – Augusta 3 North Greenville 6
- Both teams scored two runs in the first inning
- North Greenville struck first, driving in two runs off a bases-loaded double to right field.
- Aliyah Luke answered with a single through the left side that sent Paige Patterson and Bailee Roberts home and evened the score at 2-2.
- Lauren Evens hit a sac fly in the third inning to give AU a one-run edge.
- North Greenville homered in both the fourth and fifth inning, giving the Crusaders a 5-3 lead.
- The visiting team tacked on one more run from a double in the fifth inning for the final score of the game.
- Aliyah Luke, Lauren Evens, and Paige Patterson each had 1 hit in the contest. Luke had 2 RBI while Evens had 1RBI.
- Aliisa Bolinger (0-1) tossed for 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits and striking out four batters. Madelyn Spinks pitched the final 2.2 innings
GAME 2 – Augusta 9 North Greenville 6
- AU capitalized early on a wild pitch in the second inning
- North Greenville hit a 3 RBI homer in the third inning, but the Jags promptly answered with six runs in the inning. Grace Bridges, Sophie Baker, and Cadence Winder all hit singles to score in the inning in addition to Aliyah Luke's double for a 7-3 AU advantage.
- Both teams added two runs in the fourth inning.
- North Greenville would score a single run in the fifth inning, but AU would take the 9-6 victory.
- Cadence Winder led Augusta, going 2-for-3 with 3 runs and 2 RBI
- Sophie Baker was 1-for-1 with 2 RBI
- Hannah Turner (1-0) started on the mound for AU. Madelyn Spinks wrapped the final three innings, allowing four hits for one run.
