AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta opened its Peach Belt Conference series with a 5-0 shutout victory over Columbus State Cougars softball on Friday evening at Jaguar Field.
The Jaguars controlled the game from the start, scoring in four different innings while piling up 13 hits on the night. Augusta struck first in the opening inning and added to its lead in the third with a two-run frame. The Jaguars continued to apply pressure late, adding single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to extend the advantage.
Offensively, Augusta saw production throughout the lineup, with six different players recording hits. Sam Tener, Kaylynn Scaffe, and others helped pace the attack as the Jaguars consistently put runners on base and capitalized on opportunities.
In the circle, Ansley Gibson delivered a dominant complete-game performance, tossing a shutout while allowing just four hits and striking out three over seven innings.
The Jaguars' defense backed up the effort, limiting Columbus State's chances and keeping the Cougars off the scoreboard.
