AUGUSTA, Ga. -
Augusta State swept UNC Pembroke 5-4 and 9-1 on Saturday afternoon
in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Jaguar Field.
The Lady Jaguars combined for 16 hits on the afternoon.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in the
league, while UNC Pembroke dropped to 10-6 on the season and 3-3 in
the conference.
ASU sophomore Sara DeMuth earned the win in game one and improved
to 6-1 on the season. DeMuth gave up three earned runs on five hits
and had six strikeouts in six innings of work. Senior Kimberly Kennedy relieved DeMuth in the seventh and earned her first save of
the season. She allowed no hits and struck out one batter.
In game two, sophomore Emily Corish improved to 4-0 on the season,
receiving the win. Corish pitched 4.0 innings and allowed only one
unearned run in three hits and three strikeouts. Kennedy pitched
the fifth inning and struck out all three batters.
Junior Alyssa Pingree paced the Jags offensively going 3-for-5 on
the day with four RBI. Sophomore Kristen Jones had three hits on
the day, while sophomore Jessica Thornton had two hits and drove in
three runs. Seniors Kayla Hicks and Leann Barber had two hits and
two RBI each on the day.
For the Braves in game one, Alex Hartshorn was tagged with the loss
and dropped to 2-1 on the season. Hartshorn allowed five hits and
struck out two batters in 2.2 innings of work.
Caroline Newman received the loss in game two for UNC Pembroke.
Newman gave up seven runs on four hits and had two strikeouts.
Lynn Grantham paced the Braves offensively on the day with two
hits, while Loren Bartz's only hit of the day was a two-run
homer in game one.
The Jags will be back in action on Tuesday, March 2 when they host
St. Andrew for a non-conference doubleheader at Jaguar Field. First
pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
