WINGATE, N.C. -- Wingate jumped out to an early lead over Augusta State Sunday at Ron Christopher Stadium and went on to post a 10-2 victory. With the win, the Bulldogs completed a three-game sweep of the non-conference series.
ASU sophomore shortstop Jake Sutton went 3-for-3, while Matt Smith and Ryan Khan each collected an RBI. Brac Barton and Casey Hanrahan scored the Jags' two runs.
Four Bulldog pitchers limited ASU to just five hits. Wingate starter Mark Rape booked his first win, allowing three hits and a run in 5.0 innings. He struck out four and walked four.
Freshman lefthander Kip Custer (0-2) took the loss for the Jags. He was charged with seven hits and four earned runs in 3.0 innings.
Wingate led 4-0 after three innings and after ASU scratched for a run in the fourth on Khan's sacrifice fly, the Bulldogs plated five runs in the fifth and sixth.
ASU hosts Paine College on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 2:00 p.m., at Jaguar Field.
