AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State Jaguars took a 9-2 non-conference victory over Paine College, Tuesday afternoon at Lions Field. The Jaguars improve to 17-22 overall with the win.
Junior Chase Johnston earned the win, pitching one inning and striking out the side.
The leading hitters for the Jaguars were senior Tristan Toorie with two hits and freshman Jeff Rice who also booked two hits. Senior Alex Walker recorded a hit for the Jags with two RBI.
The Jags entered the eighth inning with just a 3-2 lead over the Lions when two back-to-back singles turned into two more runs off a double by senior Casey Hanrahan. Hanrahan's timely double sparked a five run rally for Augusta State to secure the win over the Lions. Junior Caleb Saggus added four more stolen bases to his total. Saggus leads the conference in steals with 41.
The Jags are back in action to take on USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 9 at Jaguar Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
