Jags move to 7-2 with non-conference win over Paine College

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Separated by only a few miles, Augusta (7-2) and Paine (6-5) played the annual crosstown meeting and the Jaguars prevailed 8-4 on Wednesday night in Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The Jaguars produced 13 hits in the win to Paine's nine. Junior centerfielder Clint Hardy went 3-4 in the leadoff position with a pair of runs and two RBI and junior Tyler Roberts drove in a run and scored a run with a 2-3 day.

Sophomore righty Casey Lenoch (1-0) relieved in the sixth inning and picked up his first win with 1.2 innings of work where he struck out four.

Augusta junior Cole Janousek produced a 2-4 performance at the plate and scored twice and sophomore Brent Alford went 2-4 with a scored run.

The Jags took a quick three-run lead by the end of the third inning after senior Nick Rau started the scoring with an RBI knock in the first to score senior Conner Gilbert.

Augusta sophomore David Hagelston struck out three in 3.0 innings on the mound where he allowed one run on three hits in his first start of the year.

Paine got on the board with a solo run in the third, making way for Augusta reliever Will Robertson to the Jaguar mound in the fourth inning. Robertson gave up two runs on four hits and the Lions got themselves back into a 4-3 game in the sixth inning.

Sophomore Casey Lenoch took over the mound in the bottom of the sixth for Augusta with the runners on the bases. Paine eventually drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game 4-4 for three total runs in the sixth.

The Jags stole the lead 8-4 with back-to-back innings where they scored two runs on a slew of hits and help from the Lions defense.

Last time out, the Jags outscored PC 26-5 in a doubleheader sweep on Feb. 14, 2015 at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Augusta hosts a non-conference series Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19-20 with Florida Institute of Technology. The Jags host Florida Tech for a single game on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and play a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
