Evans, Ga. - Over the past couple of weeks the Augusta University softball team and D-Bat Evans teamed up to offer young ladies in the area a chance to work on their skills with Jaguar players. 

From hitting to fielding and pitching, AU student-athletes worked with youngsters to make them better at softball. Getting them started at a young age can help set them up for success down the road.

"It's so important,", said Kelsea Moody. "It's like the ground construction of your basic developmental skills of softball." 

Younger players tend to gravitate towards players closer to their age. So having the Jaguars directly involved in the drills and teaching can have a lasting impact on the young players.



"It's really cool to see how that light was probably in my eyes when I was at their age. It's kind of a full circle moment. I get to teach them the things that I was taught at their age," said Moody. 

 "I told the girls right before the camp today that when I was their age, I wanted to be a college baseball player so being able to work this closely with a group of players that I want to be is amazing," said Connor Hoover, an instructor at D-Bat Evans.

The sport of softball continues to grow in popularity at all levels. The Augusta players say it means a lot to them to give back as they enjoy instilling their knowledge on the younger players.  

"It means the world to me," said Moody. "I love seeing and inspiring young women the same way I was inspired when I was younger and it's really cool to see them fall in love with the game like I did."
